How To Manage A Team From Your Garden Shed

Boradroom Table

For those of you who are wondering how on earth we manage a team from the bottom of the garden, let us shed light on the situation (sorry, couldn’t help it!) as we explore how to grow an empire on your doorstep.

Remote working to the rescue

Home working has skyrocketed in recent years, as the numbers of self-employed in the UK jump to a staggering 4.69 million. And it makes sense; as our last blog explored, home working is a popular alternative to the office lifestyle.

Shed with bike

Allowing you to set your own hours, cut out the commute, and focus on work with a few home comforts, many people find they are more motivated and productive when working from home.

All this has been made possible by the leaps and bounds technology has taken over the past decade. Now, we can chat to our colleagues as if they were in the same room, from the comfort of your home office, sofa, bed or – in our case – shed!

Digital tools for success

We may have become renowned for our garden-based office, but The Code Guy is just one of millions of businesses based at home, with teams spanning across the UK and beyond. Communication is key to these remote working relationships, facilitated by the fantastic technology available at our fingertips.

We could talk all day about the amazing tools at the disposal of online businesses - cloud storage for sharing, storing and collaborating on documents; VoIP (voice over internet protocol) software for free video calls, and time tracking tools that allow you to monitor your team’s activity.

However, as self-professed geeks who love a challenge, we thought we could do one better than the solutions currently on the market. Sure, CRM (customer relationship management) and CMS (content management software) systems are great, but wouldn’t it be cool to have something that tied all of these together?

Coming soon – Skwish

We're thrilled to say that we have conjured up a solution for remote working that (we hope) will enable countless other businesses, freelancers and contractors to manage their projects from the comfort of their sofa.

Skwish is the result of many months of hard work behind the scenes at The Code Guy. Our tool of tools, this brilliant software will offer project management, bug tracking, client relationship management and marketing… what more could you ask for?!

Working from home has become easier and more acceptable in the space of a few short years, and with tools like Skwish, we wonder how much longer the office lifestyle will be around… We’ll be revealing more about Skwish in the very near future, but for now watch this space as we finish icing the cake on our incredible new software.
